Middle and High School Math Teacher
RUSSELL HANES has a B.A. in mathematics from Columbia University, New York. His first job was teaching English in Japan. After that amazing, eye-opening experience, he taught public speaking, coached competitive debaters to state- and national-level success, and completed a master’s in Communication at Portland State. Russell switched gears and earned a master’s in teaching math at Lewis and Clark. Since then, he has taught math at Oregon Episcopal School, Potomac School in Washington, D.C., and Taipei American School in Taiwan. In his free time, he likes to hike, camp, and snowboard, and he is working on a textbook introducing statistics. Russell has been with Northwest Academy since 2015.
